OUR STORY
The exciting thing about our story is that it's full great possibilities... just waiting to be realized. Here's what's happened to get us to today.
2011 - global shapers community founded
An initiative of the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Global Shapers Community was inspired into creation by WEF founder, Professor Klaus Schwab. The idea: create a network of Hubs developed and led by young people who are exceptional in their potential, their achievements and their drive to make a contribution to their communities to help drive the building of a more peaceful and inclusive world.
2015 - HONOLULU HUB CREATED
Honolulu Hub is launched by Founding Curator, Brent Kakesako. Brent recruits seven under 30 year-old friends--nonprofit leaders, social entrepreneurs, creative professionals, and educators--who are making positive waves in the community in Honolulu.
The group discusses their dreams and vision for Hawaii, recognizing that the future is full of opportunity as well as challenge. They brainstorm dozens of project ideas. Recognizing the need to learn by listening and to build bridges between generations, cultures, and the diversity of the Aloha State, they decide to find ways to tap into the power of storytelling.
2016 - the bench of pure aloha born
The Hub continues to refine ideas around storytelling. Ultimately, they up with the concept of "The Bench of Pure Aloha". Bronson Chang and Scott Nishimoto, become the Curator and Co-Curator for Honolulu Hub, respectively. In July, the first pilot for BOPA is completed at Uncle Clay's House of Pure Aloha with many laughs and lessons learned to help take the project to the next level.
